Biography

Toshio Sasaki advises clients on major project transactions as well as general patent matters. Prior to joining the Firm, Mr. Sasaki worked on large-scale offshore oil pipeline projects for Abu Dhabi and Bo Hai Bay in China. He has broad experience in all aspects of planning, designing and managing construction works and budgets.

Practice Focus

Mr. Sasaki routinely works with clients on large-scale project finance and provides technical and legal advice. He has experience counseling on a wide range of transactions concerning waste disposal facilities, wind power project finance and PFI projects, particularly those in Kanagawa, Chiba, Saitama, Okayama, Tokyo, Gifu and Hiroshima, solar power projects in Hokkaido, Iwate, Fukushima, Tochigi, Ibaraki, Aichi, Mie, Okayama, Kochi, Fukuoka, Nagasaki, Kagoshima, and coal and LNG thermal power projects. He also handles various real property securitization and liquidation transactions and developments. In addition, Mr. Sasaki provides advice on energy-related agreements, construction undertaking agreements, as well as general patent and utility model patent trials.

Representative Legal Matters

  • Acted for Japanese construction companies in lawsuits with respect to construction projects.

  • Represented Japanese and foreign companies in IP-related litigation.

  • Advised clients in relation to bank project finance and PFI projects, such as wind power projects and public facilities, including a library, an aquarium and a museum, a waste disposal project, a school lunch center and a civilian hospital project.

  • Advised clients in relation to real property securitization and liquidation finance — commercial facilities such as shopping centers, distribution facilities involving warehouses, hotels and transportation.

  • Advised clients in relation to finance pertaining to land redevelopment.

  • Provided legal advice to Japanese local power companies in relation to PPA and PSA.

  • Advised on the legal aspects of financing and EPC contracts in relation to renewable energy projects (mainly wind and solar projects) in various areas of Japan.
