Biography

Dr. Nikolaus Reinhuber is a leading transactional lawyer and chairs the global Industrials, Manufacturing and Transportation (IMT) Industry Group of Baker McKenzie. For 30 years Nikolaus has acted for corporate and private equity clients in large international transactions. "He has a very business-centric approach to M&A. He doesn't just talk about the law, he understands the business needs in deals.“ (General Counsel of a US listed company in a Thomson Reuters survey 2020).

Nikolaus led the German M&A Practice of Baker McKenzie until 2017 before taking on his global responsibility. Before joining Baker McKenzie in 2008, he served as an M&A and corporate partner with another leading global law firm. Nikolaus is a member of the Global Autonomous Vehicle Council of the World Economic Forum. He also chairs the Baker McKenzie Diversity & Inclusion Committee in Germany/Austria.

Nikolaus focuses his practice on cross-border mergers and acquisitions, private equity transactions, and joint ventures, as well as general corporate law, with a primary industry focus on the Industrials, Manufacturing and Transportation sector.

  • Advised ThyssenKrupp on corporate reorganization issues relating to the planned carve-out of its steel business into a joint venture with Tata Steel.

  • Advised Masan Resources Corp. on the acquisition of H.C. Starck Group from Advent/Carlyle.

  • Advised Toppan Printing Co., Ltd., on the acquisition of Germany based Interprint Group from Wrede Industrieholding.

  • Advised Flowserve Corp. on the acquisition of SIHI Group from Thyssen-Bornemisza Group and on the global carve-out and sale of its Gestra Group to Spirax-Sarco.

  • Advised Daimler AG on the acquisition of the Athlon car business from Rabobank.

  • Advised Allegion plc on the acquisition of SimonsVoss Technologies.

  • Advised Sulzer AG on the global carve-out and sale of the MetCo division to OC Oerlikon.

  • Advised Schuler family on the sale of their 38.5 percent stake in Schuler AG to Andritz Group.

  • Advised Cummins Inc. i.a. on the acquisition of the SCR division from Hilite/3i.

  • Advised Karl Schlecht Stiftung on the sale of the Putzmeister Group to Chinese Sany Heavy Industries.

  • Advised CQLT on the acquisition of SaarGummi, the largest Chinese investment in Germany at the time.

  • Advised Morgan Stanley/Deutsche Bank on the re-IPO of Lenzing AG.

  • Advised Permira on the public takeover of Valentino/Hugo Boss.

  • Advised KKR/Goldman Sachs Capital Partners on the acquisition of Kion from Linde AG.
