Biography

Michał Piekarski heads the Energy Practice in Baker McKenzie's Warsaw office. He has over seven years' experience advising Polish and foreign energy companies. Prior to joining the Firm, he practiced in various international law firms and was an in-house lawyer to a large private energy group in Poland.

Practice Focus

Mr. Piekarski focuses his practice on the energy, gas and heat markets. He has advised on some of the biggest and most complex generation, distribution, wholesale trade and renewables projects and transactions in the Polish energy sector.

Representative Legal Matters

  • Provided comprehensive regulatory assistance to Polenergia Elektrociepłownia Nowa Sarzyna in the operation of a 116 MW heat and power generation plant in Southern Poland, including recent negotiations of strategic agreements with the Polish Transmission System Operator.
  • Providing legal services to Polenergia Elektrownia Północ in relation to the greenfield development of a 1600 MW coal-fired power plant in Northern Poland.
  • Assisting a Polish energy distribution system operator in various legal issues, including concessioning, tariffs and regulatory concerns, and representing the client before the Energy Regulatory Authority in Poland.
  • Assisting a recognized Polish energy trading company in reviewing and negotiating EFET/PPA/CPA and other agreements concerning trade-in of energy, gas and certificates.
  • Assisting Mansa (Kulczyk Investments) in a transaction related to the acquisition of a major stake in Polish Energy Partners, a wind farm and biomass group of companies.
