Megan Paterson is an intellectual property associate focusing on disputes, brand enforcement and management, and health regulatory matters. Megan is also an active member of the Firm's pro bono team and provides legal support for survivors of human trafficking and sexual exploitation.

Megan joined Baker McKenzie in 2016 as a summer student before completing her Ontario Articles of Clerkship. Prior to joining the Firm, Megan completed a Masters of Public Health and worked as a consultant for UNITAID at the World Health Organization in Geneva and other global health organizations in Toronto focusing on issues related to pharmaceutical policy.

Practice Focus

Megan has a diverse intellectual property practice. She regularly assists clients in the areas of copyright, patent, and trademark litigation; pharmaceutical and health regulation; and brand management and enforcement. In the past few years, Megan has assisted clients in the healthcare, entertainment, technology, transportation, and food and beverage industries on various matters including regulatory compliance advice, takedown proceedings, infringement claims, marketing and advertising complaints, and trademark clearance and prosecution.

  • Representing a Canadian office supply retail chain in a large copyright infringement action involving set-top streaming devices

  • Representing one of North America's largest freight railroad networks in a patent infringement suit on three patents pertaining to online e-commerce customer-facing tools

  • Representing a Canadian confectionary company in a lawsuit regarding the sale of grey market goods

  • Advising a multinational healthcare technology company on regulatory compliance matters related to an online pharmacy platform

  • Assists various global clients with trademark clearance, prosecution, and enforcement
