Biography

Asandra Ogle is an associate in Baker McKenzie's Energy, Mining & Infrastructure Practice Group in Johannesburg.

She joined Baker McKenzie in January 2022 as a candidate attorney doing her articles during which she spent time in the banking and finance, dispute resolution and energy, mining and infrastructure practice groups where she advised on energy and infrastructure, general corporate and commercial litigation and disputes, project finance and financial regulatory concerns. She was admitted as a legal practitioner in March 2024 and is currently practicing as an Attorney of the High Court in South Africa.

Asandra advises a variety of local, multinational, listed and unlisted clients across industry sectors including energy, mining and infrastructure, banking and project finance. Her experience includes advising on renewable energy and social infrastructure transactions in South Africa and Southern Africa.

Representative Legal Matters

  • Advised government, local investors and developers in relation to the establishment of a public private partnership and development of a run-of-the-river hydropower project in Mozambique with a generation capacity of 1,500 MW.
  • Advised Mahlako Energy Fund and Thirdway Investment Partners on the acquisition, via Mahlako Gas Energy Proprietary Limited, of a minority stake in Tetra4, a South African subsidiary of Renergen Limited. Tetra4 holds South Africa's first and only onshore petroleum production right and is the entity developing the Virginia Gas Project to produce liquid helium and liquified natural gas.
  • Advised major South African commercial banks and national development finance institutions, as lenders, in relation to the project financing, construction and commissioning of the 100 MW Ilangalethu CSP Project awarded under Round 3 of the South Africa Department of Energy's Renewable Independent Power Producer Programme (REIPPPP), based in Upington, South Africa.
  • Advised the lender group in relation to the project financing, construction and commissioning of 25 MW Ngodwana Energy Biomass Project, the first biomass power plant awarded under the South Africa Department of Energy's Renewable Independent Power Producer Programme (REIPPPP), located in Mpumalanga, South Africa.
  • Advised a multi-disciplinary investment holding company, as sponsor, in respect of the project financing, construction and commissioning of a 150 MW solar PV plant awarded under Round 6 of the South Africa Department of Energy's Renewable Independent Power Producer Programme (REIPPPP).
  • Advised a JSE-listed entity in respect of its renewable energy strategy and roll-out of its solar renewable power projects and PPA procurement process across South Africa.
  • Negotiating, drafting and advising on various agreements including, inter alia, financing agreements, joint venture and consortium agreements, guarantees, operation and maintenance agreements, engineering, procurement and construction contracts, power purchase agreements, leases agreements, and service level agreements.
