Biography

Christian Morgan is an associate in Baker McKenzie's North America Intellectual Property Practice Group in the Firm's Chicago office. Christian focuses his practices in the areas of intellectual property litigation and enforcement, global brand protection and management, and copyright issues.

Practice Focus

Christian advises clients across a wide range of industries, including fashion, entertainment, health and wellness, home goods, financial, and tech, on all aspects of trademark and copyright prosecution and portfolio management, acquisition, licensing, and enforcement. In addition, Christian regularly represents clients in IP litigation in federal courts, inter partes proceedings before the US Patent and Trademark Office Trademark Trial and Appeal Board, and domain name disputes before the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). Christian is also an adjunct professor at Loyola University Chicago School of Law where he teaches an advanced legal writing course for IP litigation and enforcement.

Representative Legal Matters

  • Advise a wide variety of clients regarding internet-related trademark and copyright enforcement matters, including trademark and DMCA takedowns, registrar and webhost liability, and social media issues, and represent clients in Uniform Domain Name Dispute Resolution Policy (UDRP) proceedings before the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).

  • Advise clients on global trademark strategy and coordinate portfolio management.

  • Obtained first impression ruling concerning applicability of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) as to discovery in proceedings before the US Trademark Trial and Appeal Board (TTAB).

  • Secured temporary restraining order, preliminary and permanent injunctions, and damages award of more than USD 49 million on trademark counterfeiting and infringement, phishing, cybersquatting and copyright infringement claims in Northern District of Illinois on behalf of global financial derivatives exchange company.

  • Secured permanent injunction and damages award of more than USD 5 million on patent infringement and false advertising claims in District of Arizona.

  • Advised one of the world's largest online ticket resellers on acquisition of copyright portfolio containing thousands of works.
