John A. McLees is trusted counsel to US and multinational clients on international tax issues, particularly in relation to business operations in Latin America. He is consistently ranked among “leading advisors” on Latin American tax matters by the International Tax Review, and is listed in Euromoney Publications of London’s Guide to the World’s Leading Tax Advisor 2000 and Euromoney’s Guide to the Leading US Tax Lawyers 1997. Mr. McLees has also written and spoken extensively on Latin American tax matters, and has organized conferences focusing on the tax aspects of doing business in Mexico.

Practice Focus

Mr. McLees assists industry clients in structuring corporate transactions in Mexico and other Latin American jurisdictions. This includes establishing operations, negotiating Latin American joint ventures, as well as implementing arrangements for providing services and know-how. For nearly two decades, Mr. McLees has counseled on Mexico’s implementation of tax and transfer pricing rules, and on satisfactory Mexican tax treatment of companies in the manufacturing sector. His extensive experience includes advising the Mexican Ministry of Finance and Public Credit on discussions with US tax authorities as well as implications of Mexican tax laws for US companies.
