Bethan Lukey is an associate focusing on EU and UK competition law with Baker McKenzie’s Competition team in London.
Bethan advises on all aspects of competition law including merger control, foreign investment, competition investigations, state aid, distribution systems, information exchange, abuse of dominance, and general competition compliance.
Bethan undertook a client secondment to DMGT plc, and has also spent a year in Baker McKenzie’s European and Competition Law Practice in Brussels.
Bethan practice covers a broad range of competition law issues in the UK and the EU, having practiced in both the Brussels and London offices, with a focus on merger control and foreign investment review.
She also regularly advises clients on the application of EU State aid and UK subsidy control legislation, and has helped clients keep abreast of developments in this area following Brexit.
Bethan advises across a broad range of sectors, with a focus on healthcare, consumer goods, energy and infrastructure and ports.

Advised GlaxosmithKline plc's formation of a consumer healthcare joint venture with Pfizer Inc.
Acted for Unilever on various acquisitions including its acquisition of the prestige skincare brands "Tatcha" for USD 500 million and "Paula's Choice" in 2021.
Acted for Abbott Laboratories in its USD 5.8 billion acquisition of Alere, Inc. (Shortlisted for the 'Merger control matter of the year - Europe' award in GCR Awards Ceremony, 2018)
Advised clients on EU State Aid and UK Subsidy Control legislation. Acted for CLdN's in its successful legal challenge to the UK Government regarding State aid made available to ferry companies during the coronavirus pandemic.
Advised clients facing investigation by antitrust authorities. Acted for a client in the CMA's investigation into potential breaches of competition law regarding resale price maintenance.
Assisted a Government seeking to redraft its Competition Law regime and provided draft legislation.
Advised a client on a post-acquisition global compliance audit. Assessed key compliance risks and advised on the same.
Acted for a US studio in the Commission's investigation into restrictions affecting the cross border provision of pay TV services.
Acted for Dyson in its EU Court appeal over the energy efficiency labelling regulation.
Advised various pro-bono clients, in particular acting for Mencap in a legal clinic resolving "Access to Care" disputes and in a dispute regarding a repudiatory breach of contract.
Helped the Firm launch its "He for She" initiative.
