Sarwenaz Kiani is a senior associate in the Firm's Antitrust & Competition Practice Group in London. She has published in-depth merger control analysis pieces about EC and national mergers for MLex, an online European legal news service. Prior to joining Baker & McKenzie in 2010, she worked as a stagiaire (trainee) at the European Commission, as well as in the competition law department of an international law firm in Paris.

Practice Focus

Ms. Kiani advises national and international clients on a wide range of European and German competition law issues, including merger control, cartel arrangements, private antitrust litigation and anticompetitive arrangements, particularly in relation to vertical agreements and market dominance. She also routinely represents clients in merger control proceedings and antitrust investigations before the German Federal Court and the EC Commission.

  • Advice regularly in EU and German merger notifications regarding many different industry areas such as IT, media, raw materials, food.

  • Developed and implemented compliance structure and proceedings for a globally active German laboratory technology company; develop and implement compliance trainings and guidelines.

  • Advice ASICS regarding an on-going administrative proceedings before the German Fedefal Cartel Office regarding the implementation of a selective distribution system.

  • Advised Segafredo Zanetti Deutschland GmbH in appeals proceedings against a fining decision by the German Federal Cartel Office in the coffee sector.

  • Advised Hewlett-Packard in a EU consultation case and multijurisdictional merger control proceedings (including the EU Commission) relating to the USD2 billion outsourcing of IT services by E. ON Group.
