Michael's IP litigation cases for many household-name companies have involved issues relating to copyright, design, IP licensing terms, trade secrets and misappropriation of confidential information, personal privacy and trade marks. Michael has also successfully conducted a large number of mediations relating to IP issues.

His non-contentious IP work includes advising on major IP agreements and licenses, and the sale and acquisition of IP rights.

Michael has also acted for leading technology companies, trade associations and consumer groups in connection with several legislative lobbying campaigns on copyright issues, involving both the UK and European Parliaments and the European Commission. He has also advised leading companies on issues relating to legislation and legislative proposals on designs and trade secrets.

• Representing Meltwater and the Public Relations Consultants Association against the NLA in their successful appeal to the UK Supreme Court and to the Court of Justice of the European Union on the temporary copying exception.

• Representing a car manufacturer in its high profile disputes with competitors over trade secrets.

• Representing Universities UK in their successful copyright licence reference against the Copyright Licensing Agency.

• Representing a consumer electronics industry and consumer interests body in their lobbying campaign in relation to the Copyright in the Information Society Directive 2001.
