Sabelo Goma
Biography
Sabelo Goma is a director designate in Baker McKenzie's Banking & Finance Practice Group in Johannesburg.
He focuses primarily on secured and syndicated lending, acquisition finance, restructuring finance and leveraged finance (acting for lenders, borrowers and sponsors).
Prior to joining Baker McKenzie, Sabelo was a director at a large South African law firm. He has also spent time on secondment at a British multinational law firm, as well as with FirstRand Bank Limited (acting through its Rand Merchant Bank division).
He is a member of the South African Reserve Bank's (SARB) Market Practitioner's Group, which is a joint public and private sector body, comprising representatives from SARB, the Financial Sector Conduct Authority, and senior professionals from a variety of institutions from different market interest groups active in the domestic money market currently working toward creating the framework for transitioning from JIBAR to ZARONIA.

- Advised a consortium of lenders in respect of EUR 240 million and ZAR 1.96 billion term and revolving facilities made available to Ascendis Financial Services Limited and members of the Ascendis Health Limited group.*
- Advised Absa Bank Limited (acting through its Corporate and Investment Banking division), FirstRand Bank Limited (acting through its Rand Merchant Bank division), The Standard Bank of South Africa (acting through its Corporate and Investment Banking division), Nedbank Limited (acting through its Corporate and Investment Banking division) and the Bank of China in relation to a ZAR 5.5 billion revolving facility made available to Sibanye Stillwater Limited.*
- Advised Absa Bank Limited (acting through its Corporate and Investment Banking division), Nedbank Limited (acting through its Corporate and Investment Banking division), Goldman Sachs, Citibank N.A. (Johannesburg Branch) in relation to a USD 200 million bridge facility made available to Harmony Gold Limited.*
- Advised Absa Bank Limited (acting through its Corporate and Investment Banking division), FirstRand Bank Limited (acting through its Rand Merchant Bank division), Nedbank Limited (acting through its Corporate and Investment Banking division), Goldman Sachs, Citibank N.A. (Johannesburg Branch) in relation to USD 400 million term and revolving credit facilities made available to Harmony Gold Limited.*
- Advised Absa Bank Limited (acting through its Corporate and Investment Banking division), and Nedbank Limited (acting through its Corporate and Investment Banking division) in relation to a ZAR 6 billion revolving credit facility made available to Harmony Gold Limited.*
- Advised Nedbank Limited (acting through its Corporate and Investment Banking division) in relation to ZAR 750 million ESG term and revolving facilities made available to Vukile Property Fund Limited.*
- Advised Absa Bank Limited (acting through its Corporate and Investment Banking division) and Nedbank Limited (acting through its Corporate and Investment Banking division) in relation to a USD 200 million borrowing base facility to be provided to a multinational commodities trading company.*
- Advised a solar PV installation company in relation to ZAR 1.9 billion ESG term and revolving facilities made available by one of the leading South African commercial banks.*
- Advised Dipula Income Fund Limited in respect of ZAR 11 billion facilities made available by Absa Bank Limited (acting through its Corporate and Investment Banking division) and Nedbank Limited (acting through its Corporate and Investment Banking division).*
- Advised a consortium of lenders in respect of term loan facilities and preference share funding made available to Sun International Limited and certain of its subsidiaries in order to refinance existing facilities.*
