James Ellis is an associate in the Melbourne office's Construction Practice Group. He joined Baker McKenzie in March 2013 and in addition to his Construction experience, has spent time in the Dispute Resolution and Commercial Real Estate Practice Groups. James also volunteers at Inner Melbourne Community Legal in the debt and infringement clinic.
James has been involved in a wide range of transactional and dispute related matters in the construction industry. He has experience in general commercial transactions for local and international clients of various sizes and has an understanding of common issues facing principals, head contractors and subcontractors. Recently, James has gained onsite experience on a A$250 million construction dispute involving the preparation of claims against the owner as well as defending claims from multiple subcontractors. He has a sound knowledge of security of payment disputes, having been involved in the preparation of a number of adjudication applications and responses in various Australian states.
