Biography

Matt Dushek is a partner in Baker McKenzie's Intellectual Property Practice Group at the Firm's Washington office.

Prior to practicing law, Matt worked as a senior engineer in the marine industry where he designed hardware and software for award-winning vessel and engine control systems that disrupted the industry.

Practice Focus

Matt is experienced in a wide range of technologies, including automotive and marine systems, avionics and aerospace systems, consumer electronics, control systems, optical systems and semiconductor devices. His practice is focused on all areas of patent law, including litigation, counseling, prosecution and post-grant proceedings, such as Inter Partes Review and reissue practice.

He litigates cases across the country often taking a lead role in technical analysis, claim construction, and depositions of fact witnesses and experts. He has successfully argued before the Patent Trial & Appeal Board. Matt also maintains an active patent prosecution practice. He regularly meets with examiners at the US Patent and Trademark Office in obtaining patent protection for leading global corporations

Representative Legal Matters

  • Represented a US electronics manufacturer in a patent infringement investigation before the International Trade Commission, a patent infringement action brought in the Eastern District of Virginia, multiple Inter Partes review proceedings, and an appeal to the Federal Circuit.
  • Represented an automotive manufacturer in multiple Inter Partes review proceedings and an appeal to the Federal Circuit related to engine technologies.
  • Represented a multinational company that provides interactive streaming technologies in a patent infringement action in the District of New Jersey and in multiple Inter Partes review proceedings.
  • Represented a global provider of display and computing products in actions brought by non-practicing entities in the Eastern District of Texas on display technologies, processor design and touchscreen interfaces, and in the District of New Hampshire related to media players.
  • Represented a handset manufacturer in actions brought by non-practicing entities in the Eastern District of Texas on processor design, in the District of Colorado on wireless communications, in the District of Nevada on cellular technology, in the Southern District of California on flash memory technology, and in the Northern District of California on mapping technology, in an Inter Partes review proceeding and an appeal to the Federal Circuit.
  • Represented a point of sale printer manufacturer in multiple Inter Partes review proceedings.
  • Represented a handset manufacturer in a confidential arbitration, including numerous discovery and complex expert witness issues.
  • Prosecuted hundreds of patent applications.
  • Drafted invalidity, non-infringement and freedom to operate opinions.
