Ilia N. Danef joined Baker & McKenzie's LLP as a national partner in 2014. Prior to joining the Firm, Ilia was a partner at another large national firm in Canada. In his early career, he spent five years with the Amsterdam and London offices of another international firm. In addition, he gained business experience as a result of a seven-month secondment with the investment grade syndications team at ABN AMRO Bank N.V. During this secondment he also assisted the leveraged finance and telecoms teams.
Ilia has acted as lead counsel for lenders and borrowers in relation to many different types of financing including acquisition financing, investment grade loans, telecom financing, asset based loans, export credit financing, project financing, loans to sovereigns and general corporate loans. He has also acted for some of the largest international banks and private equity houses in syndicated as well as bilateral financings.
Ilia's practice focuses on the sectors of Banking & Finance and Energy, Mining & Infrastructure. Ilia's practice also regularly involves representing clients in corporate transactions and mergers and acquisitions with a particular emphasis on energy and infrastructure projects.
