Biography

Harrison Chen is an associate based in the Sydney office of Baker McKenzie. He has experience working in both Australia and China across a range of domestic and cross-border matters in the TMT, consumer goods and retail, financial services, healthcare, and therapeutic goods and food industry sectors.

In 2019, Harrison was awarded a Baker McKenzie international clerkship and was seconded to the Corporate Markets: M&A Practice Group of the Baker McKenzie FenXun (FTZ) Joint Operation Office in Shanghai.

In 2018, Harrison was named as a Top 100 Future Leader in Australia by the Australian Financial Review and featured on the cover of the AFR Magazine.

Practice Focus

Harrison has experience advising clients across multiple industries on contracting and regulatory issues, including telecommunications, media and technology, and consumer goods and retail.

Further areas of focus in his practice include privacy and data protection, digital media and online platform regulation, e-commerce, consumer law, information technology and general commercial advisory.

Prior to joining the Firm, Harrison worked as an associate at a top Australian investment bank, where he covered leveraged buyouts, asset financing and principal investments.

Representative Legal Matters

  • Managing and conducting the due diligence process on large corporate mergers and acquisitions, and internal restructures.
  • Managing and conducting multijurisdictional due diligence processes and reviewing customer and vendor contractual arrangements across the EU and North America for data center investments.
  • Managing multijurisdictional projects across Asia Pacific for data regulatory advice.
  • Managing regional surveys on Australian consumer law, data privacy and import/export regulatory issues.
  • Advising clients on consumer law and regulatory issues in a variety of industries, including in the FMCG and telecommunications sectors.
  • Drafting terms of service, privacy policies, MOUs, goods and services agreements, distribution agreements and other commercial agreements for both domestic and overseas clients.
  • Managing and conducted multijurisdictional privacy policy reviews.
  • Updating a range of commercial agreements for compliance with Australian privacy laws, unfair contract term laws and online safety laws.
  • Advising on advertising/marketing regulations for a range of industries including therapeutic goods, food, and gambling industry sectors.
  • Assisting several businesses with applying for licenses in the healthcare, food, poisons, and liquor industry sectors.
  • Assisting a large Australian telecommunications provider with navigating a band spectrum auction to win spectrum.
