Biography

Esteban is a lawyer graduated from Pontificia Universidad Javeriana and is experienced in Taxation from Universidad de los Andes, he is also close to finishing his Master's studies in Taxation at the same university.

For almost four years, his main areas of work have been related to the practice of tax law in consulting services and tax litigation. He has been part of the public sector and the private sector, being an official of the National Tax and Customs Administrative Authority (DIAN) for three years, being part of different work groups of the legal division, as well as an associate lawyer of a firm with a focus in tax advice.

Practice Focus

His practice focus has consisted of: elaboration of tax planning and implementation of efficient corporate structures for national and foreign clients; presentation of written consultations before the Tax Administration in relation to the application of the tax framework; accompaniment in the fulfillment of tax obligations, such as income tax, VAT and withholdings at source; planning and implementation of local and international structures for the protection of family assets, seeking the harmonization of the legal and tax frameworks of different jurisdictions, with the purpose of optimizing the administration of assets; development of legal research and preparation of legal opinions in relation to the applicable tax regimes; elaboration of documents in the governmental channel and before the administrative jurisdiction in relation to tax litigation, among other matters.

Representative Legal Matters

  • He was an official of the Government Route group of the Sectional Tax Authority of Bogotá, with functions of resolving tax processes at administrative headquarters (reconsideration appeals, reinstatement, direct revocation, sanction reduction, TMA, advance reduction, responding to petition rights, among others.
  • He was an official of the External Representation group of the Sectional Tax Authority of Bogotá, with functions of representing the entity in legal proceedings before the Council of State and Courts; specifically, to answer the demands, actions for protection, petition rights, conciliations, present arguments, among others.
  • Additionally, he participated in the new tax refund request process created to help during the COVID-19 health emergency.
  • As a tax advisor, he has the functions of designing and implementing tax, corporate and legal strategies that fit the needs of clients, as well as providing litigation, consulting and comprehensive advisory services on legal issues that arise from clients.
