Barry Chang is a partner in Baker McKenzie’s Palo Alto office and a member of the Firm’s Transactional Practice Group. Barry’s practice focuses primarily on mergers and acquisitions and strategic investments. He has represented clients in a variety of industries, with a practice focus in technology. He most recently served as in-house corporate counsel for a leading San Francisco-based fintech company where he advised on corporate development initiatives. Prior to becoming a lawyer, Barry was an analyst in Goldman Sachs’ fixed income group specializing in corporate bonds and credit default swaps.

  • Advised Affirm on its acquisitions of PayBright for approximately USD 265 million, and Returnly for approximately USD 300 million

  • Advised Instacart on its acquisition of for approximately USD 350 million

  • Advised Coinbase on numerous strategic transactions

  • Advised Cadence Design Systems on its acquisitions of Numeca International, Pointwise and numerous other strategic transactions

  • Advised SAP on the sale of its Digital Interconnect business to Sinch AB for approximately USD 240 million

  • Advised Zynga on its acquisition of Echtra Games

  • Advised Uniphore on its acquisition of Jacada

Prior to joining the Firm, Barry served as counsel to:

  • Broadcom in its USD 37 billion sale to Avago (named as a member of the deal team receiving the 2016 California Lawyer Attorneys of the Year Award for M&A)

  • SolarCity in its USD 2.6 billion sale to Tesla Motors

  • CapitalG in its USD 1 billion investment in Lyft's Series H preferred stock financing

  • Square in its USD 410 million sale of its Caviar food ordering platform to DoorDash

  • Liberty Mutual in its USD 3.3 billion sale of its group benefits, life and annuity businesses to Lincoln Financial and Progressive Life

  • Crunchyroll in its USD 600 million sale to Otter Media, a joint venture between AT&T and The Chernin Group

  • Peet's Coffee in its joint venture to establish Trade, an online marketplace for craft-roasted coffee
