Paul is experienced in all aspects of litigation including determining litigation strategy, writing briefs and dispositive motions, arguing at court hearings, taking and defending depositions, interviewing witnesses, negotiating settlements, and preparing for trial. He defends and prosecutes a wide array of actions including contract disputes, unfair competition claims, business fraud, securities litigation, international arbitration, class actions, constitutional claims, appellate matters, product liability, copyright infringement, alter ego liability, collections, and insurance disputes. Paul has represented the interests of clients in federal court, state court, and alternative dispute resolution. At all phases of representation, Paul is focused on delivering the best results for his clients while achieving their strategic business objectives.
Prior to joining Baker McKenzie, Paul worked as a litigation associate at another global law firm. Previously, he clerked for three judges on the Superior Court of California, County of Los Angeles (Hon. David Sotelo, Hon. Dennis J. Landin, and Hon. Craig D. Karlan). Before clerking, Paul worked as an Equal Justice Works Fellow in Detroit, Michigan, where he provided transactional legal services to local businesses, startups, and entrepreneurs to promote community economic development.
Representative Legal Matters
Prior to joining Baker McKenzie, Paul acted on the following matters:
Won dismissal of entire complaint at demurrer stage in multimillion dollar breach of contract case against international bank. Convinced judge to completely reverse her tentative ruling and rule in client’s favor based on oral argument presented at hearing.
Served as lead associate on trial team for plaintiff in alter ego liability case and obtained stipulated entry of judgment against defendant corporation five days before trial. Drafted successful opposition to motion for summary judgment which led to favorable outcome for client.
Obtained dismissal of complaint with prejudice in complex breach of contract case against national insurance company. Prepared 12(b)(6) motion to dismiss which was granted in full.
Prosecuted breach of contract action by eliciting key testimony from defendant’s deposition leading to favorable settlement for client right before trial.
Defended communications company by preparing Rule 12(b)(6) motion to dismiss complaint alleging it violated 42 U.S.C. § 1983 and the constitutional right to privacy.
Represented agriculture company by successfully obtaining preliminary injunction in multimillion dollar real estate dispute.
Prosecuted securities litigation case by drafting complaint involving sale of cryptocurrency to investors and fraudulent misrepresentations regarding its market value.
Represented employees against prominent cannabis retailer by drafting complaint in employment dispute leading to successful settlement of all claims.
Defended automobile manufacturer in breach of warranty and fraud actions.
Advised Indian media company on copyright infringement claims involving use of film audio by popular American music group.
Represented Turkish transportation company in multimillion dollar breach of contract case.
Advised Japanese company on false advertising claims involving product ingredient labels.
Advised limited partnership on intracompany dispute by drafting arbitration demand regarding commercial real estate transactions.
