Biography

Rachel MacLeod is a senior associate in Baker McKenzie's London office.  She advises companies on the "cradle-to-grave" regulation of a broad range of products sold on the EU and UK markets. She also advise companies on how to comply with their operational environmental and health & safety obligations.

Practice Focus

Rachel's product regulatory work involves advising global manufacturers and retailers on the regimes applicable to all types of products including: consumer goods such as electricals, white goods, toys, cosmetics and clothing; industrial goods and machinery; chemicals; food; medical devices and pharmaceuticals. This covers obligations relating to:

  • manufacturing, conformity assessment, CE/UKCA marking and labelling
  • chemical content restrictions under RoHS, REACH and POPs
  • supply chain due diligence
  • pre-marketing authorisation and certification procedures
  • extended producer responsibility, take back and recycling (eg WEEE, batteries and packaging laws)
  • non-compliant and defective products 
  • regulatory investigations and prosecutions
  • global integrations and reorganisations

Her practice also covers operational environmental and health & safety matters, including in the context of multi-jurisdictional projects, mergers and acquisitions, and covers contaminated land, environmental permitting, waste, general H&S matters, asbestos risk management, REACH and CLP, carbon/GHG reporting and the ESOS energy auditing regime.
