Stockholm-based attorney Stefan Balazs has been promoted to partner at Baker McKenzie and will take up his new position on 1 July 2022.

Stefan Balazs is a member of Baker McKenzie's Capital Markets Practice Group in the Stockholm office and specializes in prospectus and market abuse law. He has extensive transactional experience from representing companies as well as investment banks in IPOs, rights issues and private placements. Stefan has special expertise in regulatory issues related to capital markets and is the only Nordic representative of the Consultative Working Group within the Corporate Finance Standing Committee at the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA).

Anders Fast, Managing Partner at Baker McKenzie Stockholm, had this to say about Stefan:
-                     Stefan Balazs has been a positive force behind the recent developments in the Stockholm office and the leading market position of our Capital Markets group. With his strong drive and comprehensive expertise, he has become indispensable to the office and appreciated by both clients and colleagues. We have seen great growth in Stockholm in recent years and this promotion is part of our strategy to continuously strengthen our offering within our focus areas.

Stefan Balazs received his law degree from Stockholm University in 2011 and has also undertaken several courses in Business Economics. He has worked at Baker McKenzie since 2015 and previously worked as a legal counsellor at the Swedish Financial Supervisory Authority (Finansinspektionen). Stefan has been a member of the Swedish Bar Association since 2021.

Stefan made the following comments on his promotion:
-                     Over the last 10 years, it has been greatly inspiring to see the dynamics and many faces of the capital markets from the regulatory side as well as the advisory side. To be able to use that experience and continue to evolve in my professional passion, when capital markets are becoming more international and are facing constant changes and challenges, is of course very gratifying. It feels like a natural and exciting step to take greater responsibility for the practice group, the office and the firm in my new role as a partner.

Baker McKenzie in Stockholm continues to record strong growth and is expected to show record figures for the financial year ending 30 June 2022, as Anders Fast states:
-                     We strive to recruit, retain and develop the best talent and it gives me great pleasure to see our people grow professionally. Stefan will be a good addition to the partnership and will contribute to our continued growth.
