On 1 May 2022 Marcin Iwaniszyn joined Baker McKenzie Krzyżowski i Wspólnicy as the Head of the Banking & Finance Practice in the Firm's Warsaw office. As a result, the firm will be joined soon by a team of banking and finance lawyers who worked with Marcin in his previous firm.

Marcin is an attorney at law and one of the most highly regarded lawyers in the banking and finance area. He specializes in M&A financings (including cross-border and public ones), complex corporate financings and refinancings, debt securities issues and debt restructuring processes.

"I would like to warmly welcome Marcin to the team of Baker McKenzie Partners. The fact that such a forward-looking lawyer with a wide market recognition, specializing in financing and restructuring and with several years of experience gained among others in another global law firm has decided to join Baker McKenzie proves that the objective of development of the transactional practice that we have recently adopted in Baker McKenzie is attractive and credible for many leading lawyers practicing so far in other leading law firms on the market.

Marcin joins us with the multi-person team he led at the previous firm, which is further proof that the firm's operating model and vision for its future development appeals to people of all ages and experience levels who want to take advantage of our international resources and capabilities to further their professional development. It also provides a good indication that we have made the right choice of practice leader who shares Baker McKenzie's values.

In cooperation with our leading global banking and finance team, Marcin will make a strong contribution to the development of our transactional practice and contribute to strengthening Baker McKenzie's position as the leader in providing legal advice on the most complex transactions carried out by Polish and global clients, which, like the recent addition of Marcin Chyliński as the new leader of the equity capital markets practice, is one of the important elements of Baker McKenzie's long-term growth strategy in Poland and the EMEA.” –said Piotr Rawski, Managing Partner of Baker McKenzie in Warsaw.

As a result of Marcin joining Baker McKenzie, a team of 9 lawyers from Marcin's previous banking and finance practice will join our firm over the next few weeks (Jerzy Rostworowski, Jakub Czerka, Sebastian Mikina, Magdalena Bętkowska, Robert Śmigielski, Andrzej Sarnacki, Maria Słomska, Krystian Kurgan and Oskar Lipień) who, under Marcin's leadership, will form, together with the existing members of Baker McKenzie's banking and finance practice, including Jan Szczurek, Bartosz Łabuda and Jan Duthel, an expanded banking and finance team with a broad level of competence and experience to work on the most complex transactions.

Marcin and his team have participated in numerous domestic and international debt financings and refinancings, advising companies, financial institutions, private equity funds, strategic investors and investment firms on many of the largest M&A transactions, leveraged buyouts and delistings in recent years. For many years Marcin has been ranked by leading international legal rankings, such as Chambers & Partners and The Legal 500, as one of the best banking and finance specialists in Poland.

"Joining Baker McKenzie is a great opportunity, responsibility and challenge which I am happy to take up together with my team. Many meetings with the leaders of Baker McKenzie in Warsaw and in global structures confirmed my belief that we share a similar vision for the development of a law firm, the transactional practice and, above all, the development of our employees and associates, and  therefore it is with great pleasure that I have decided to pursue this vision within Baker McKenzie. The banking and finance practice, which I have been involved with for several years, requires close support and collaboration with lawyers from the world's major financial centres to ensure that clients have access to the latest market trends and know-how. I am confident that together with my team and in cooperation with Baker McKenzie's banking and finance teams around the world, we will provide Polish and global clients with access to the highest quality legal services while maintaining the way of working that my clients have valued for many years" - said Marcin Iwaniszyn.

Marcin joined Baker McKenzie from Rymarz Zdort law firm (operating until the end of 2019 as the Warsaw office of Weil, Gotshal & Manges, in which he had worked since 2005), where he was a partner and co-head of the banking and finance practice. Marcin graduated from the Faculty of Law and Administration of the University of Warsaw in 2006 and has been a legal advisor since 2010.
