Baker McKenzie has appointed Gavin Rakoczy as a partner in the Restructuring and Insolvency (R&I) Team based in Sydney, joining the Firm’s strong Australian R&I offering, including partners Maria O'Brien in Sydney, Peter Lucarelli in Melbourne and Ian Innes in Brisbane.
Baker McKenzie's National Managing Partner, Anthony Foley stated: "Gavin has extensive R&I experience and has had a lead role in many of Australia’s most complicated restructures and distressed situations. He joins our highly regarded Australian R&I team – known for their ability to manage both complex local and cross-border corporate insolvencies and restructurings. We are delighted to have such a skilled practitioner join us in Sydney.”
Baker McKenzie Head of R&I in Australia, Maria O’Brien stated: “Gavin joins us at a time when we anticipate high client demand and expect to see restructuring and distressed debt transactions continue to be a significant growth area for the Firm. Gavin provides a unique skill set spanning the full spectrum of R&I legal expertise, encompassing both front-end and back-end R&I work, together with excellent connectivity in the sector."
Previously at King & Wood Mallesons, Gavin is a specialist R&I lawyer with over 15 years of experience advising insolvency practitioners, companies, boards, banks and special situation funds in the R&I space.
In being appointed to the partnership, Gavin commented: "I have long admired the team and strong market position of Baker McKenzie, both in the domestic and global legal market. It’s an exciting time to join the team, especially given the unpredictability of a post-COVID global economy overlaid with inflationary pressures, which brings with it both challenges and opportunities for Australian corporates and lenders.”
