Baker McKenzie advised OnlineDoctor AG in its acquisition of A.S.S.I.S.T., an artificial intelligence (AI) developer in the field of dermatology. The acquisition marks a first in OnlineDoctor's history and is part of its strategy to bring the world's first AI-supported medical product in teledermatology to market maturity.
OnlineDoctor is the owner and operator of the teledermatology platforms onlinedoctor.ch, onlinedoctor.de and onlinedoctor.at. The platforms allow patients to conveniently and securely submit photos of skin conditions to an independent dermatologist in their region. Patients then receive a professional assessment and recommendation within 48 hours. OnlineDoctor currently employs 35 employees in Switzerland, Germany and Austria.
A.S.S.I.S.T. was founded in 2021 and stands for Automated Scientific Skin Infection Search Technology. Its AI-supported diagnostic tool enables an initial assessment of skin diseases. In 2021, A.S.S.I.S.T. was voted number 15 of the top 50 start-ups in Germany.
The Baker McKenzie Switzerland team consisted of Markus Wolf (banking and finance/mergers and acquisitions) and Susanne Liebel-Kotz (tax).
