Leading global law firm Baker McKenzie has announced that it is partnering with leading Intellectual Property (IP) solutions provider, MaxVal, to provide its clients with a next generation IP platform.
Using MaxVal’s Symphony IP management system and MaxVal's demonstrated IP and project delivery expertise, Baker McKenzie will extend existing Symphony IP functionality and vision to deploy a modern, intuitive and intelligent IP Management solution. Additionally, leveraging the underlying Salesforce Lightning Platform on which Symphony is built, the partnership will enable class leading flexibility, security and scalability, all of which ensures a 'futureproof' IPMS, that delivers a brand management solution for Baker McKenzie clients, which sets the bar for the market.
Symphony is MaxVal’s flagship IP management system. Built and hosted on the Salesforce Lightning Platform, Symphony is the industry’s latest and most advanced Intellectual Property Management System. Baker McKenzie will be the pioneer in using this technology for law firms.
The Firm says that the solution will encompass not only technology, but also the legal expertise and scale that Baker McKenzie brings to trademarks and IP more widely. This initiative is part of Baker McKenzie’s global innovation strategy, known as Reinvent, which captures its commitment to apply clever solutions to meet clients' challenges and most strategic goals.
Baker McKenzie is one of the world's largest brand management practices, managing over 670,000 trademarks for marquee clients around the world. A major Reinvent project dubbed Project Edison - and an early graduate of the Firm’s innovation accelerator program - is to reinvent and reimagine the technology used by its brand management clients, lawyers and trademark professionals, bring the best user experience and the latest automation and machine learning capabilities to the trademark practice.
Ben Allgrove, Partner and Chief Innovation Officer at Baker McKenzie said, "Project Edison, and our partnership with MaxVal to deliver it, is a core enabler of our Reinvent strategy. Combining the best technology, service design, legal talent, data and our scale to reinvent global trademark portfolio management, and beyond. We do not want to become a technology company, but we do want to partner with the best technology partners out there to re-imagine what good looks like. As a Firm, we are working to solve many of the problems that have so far prevented true disruption of legal services and the legal business by machine learning and artificial intelligence. Last year, we announced our exclusive partnership with leading AI platform SparkBeyond, and this partnership with MaxVal is a further long term investment for us in using artificial intelligence and machine learning capabilities to deliver the future of legal services.”
Catherine Mennenga, General Counsel, Marketing and Brand Management at GE, a client of Baker McKenzie's, said, “As GE continues our efforts to build a world that works, we need to ensure that our company’s trademarks are effectively cleared, protected and enforced around the world. The system Baker McKenzie is developing with MaxVal will significantly help us with our Trademark Management, and we look forward to its rollout this year.”
D. Bommi Bommannan, CEO of MaxVal Group, Inc. said, “We are excited to partner with Baker McKenzie to take Symphony, our flagship IPMS, to the next level. We appreciate the recognition from Baker McKenzie that Symphony is the right solution for them to support their Reinvent strategy. We look forward to helping Baker McKenzie establish the standards for IP technology and service excellence in serving global clients.”
