Baker McKenzie has chosen BARBRI as the Firm's provider for the Solicitors Qualifying Examination (SQE.)
The Firm's project team was impressed with the quality of BARBRI's proposed offering, in particular, its commitment to inclusion and diversity, and its desire to work hand-in-hand with Baker McKenzie to offer a bespoke course for Baker McKenzie's future cohorts. That course will not only allow non-law graduates to start work sooner than they could at many competitor firms by dispensing with duplicative aspects of course provision (namely the GDL / PGDL), but will also ensure that trainees have a solid grounding in the key aspects of technology and commercial awareness that will form an increasing part of the training experience of Baker McKenzie's future lawyers.
Stephen Ratcliffe, Baker McKenzie's Training Principal, said:
"We were very struck by BARBRI's overall offering for SQE provision, in particular, its ambition, dynamism and superlative use of technology, which aligns closely with our own ethos. Their pitch went above and beyond our expectations. But it was their position on, and commitment to, inclusion and diversity which really chimed with us. As a core pillar of the Firm's strategy, we know we want to go further, do better in this area - and BARBRI are going to help us to get where we want to be."
BARBRI is a leading learning provider of preparation courses for the US Bar.
Victoria Cromwell, Senior Director of Business Development at BARBRI, said:
“BARBRI Global is delighted to have been chosen by Baker McKenzie to provide training for SQE and beyond to its future cohorts. Like Baker McKenzie, BARBRI views diversity and inclusion as a business imperative, and core to our strategy, which sets our values and goals both internally and to the wider community. BARBRI brings decades of proven experience with world-class learning technology to deliver robust professional education, and we are excited to be working with Baker McKenzie to tailor this provision to their specific practice needs.”
The partnership will commence as of Autumn 2021, with Baker McKenzie's first cohort of future SQE-qualified lawyers starting their preparatory course in September 2023, in readiness for their Training Contract commencing in September 2024.
In the meantime, Baker McKenzie's Graduate Recruitment & Development team will continue to work closely with BARBRI to ensure that their proposed syllabus and training programme fit seamlessly with the Firm, its ethos, and in supporting its future lawyers.
