Global law firm Baker McKenzie has been recognized in the 2021 Super League of Top Asia-related SPAC Legal Advisers by Asia Business Law Journal.
The Asia Business Law Journal's league table reflects the top legal advisers on SPAC IPOs completed between July 1, 2020, and June 30, 2021. The rankings also include legal advisers to issuers and underwriters, as well as offshore legal advisers.
Baker McKenzie features in the top-ten firms and is one of the few international law firms appearing on the list. The recognition comes as Baker McKenzie grows its services to clients as they navigate the challenges and opportunities that SPACs represent.
"SPAC transactions with Asia-based issuers highlight Baker McKenzie’s inherent strength in its cross-border transaction practice." said Derek Liu, partner in the San Francisco office of Baker McKenzie. "Our Firm is uniquely capable of combining advice on rapidly changing SPAC market trends in the US with top-of-market teams in each of the major APAC jurisdictions, for seamless coverage of SPAC-related legal issues."
Baker McKenzie represents SPAC sponsors in structuring SPACs and conducting SPAC IPOs, SPACs and target companies in de-SPAC business combination transactions and simultaneous PIPE transactions, and PIPE investors in SPACs. The Firm guides boards of directors with respect to fiduciary duties, corporate governance matters and material corporate transactions, and represents management teams in connection with SPAC matters.
The SPAC Super League table was published alongside a detailed editorial report on Asia-related SPAC and business combination trends. Full results are available in the latest issue of Asia Business Law Journal and online at Law.asia.
Baker McKenzie Partners Derek Liu, Michelle Heisner, Ashok Lalwani and Derek Poon also shared their perspectives on lessons learned for APAC de-SPACs in an article available alongside the reported rankings in Asia Business Law Journal and online at Law.as.
