The new year started with Baker McKenzie’s Vienna office securing the expertise of yet another renowned lawyer. Mag. Dr. Désirée Prantl, LL.M., (35) has joined the international law firm’s dispute resolution group as Counsel.
Born in Tyrol, she studied business law and international economics at the University of Innsbruck. After spending a study year abroad at Bocconi University in Milan, she returned to Innsbruck University’s faculty of law where she obtained her doctorate in 2010. She has received many awards and scholarships for her scientific work. Ms. Prantl also earned a Master’s degree at the New York University School of Law and completed internships in Brussels, Kiev and at WilmerHale in London, where she developed a special interest in international arbitration.
In 2012 she moved to Vienna to join Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer’s arbitration team led by Günther J. Horvath. Since 2015 she is admitted to the Austrian bar.
In her many years of practice as an arbitration lawyer, she specialized in construction arbitration and conducted arbitration proceedings to adjust supply and capacity contracts in the energy sector. She successfully advised and represented companies in post M&A transactions and has been involved in complex corporate litigation. Her legal and economic understanding allows her to meet the highest demands of clients. She has also tackled contemporary issues, such as legal tech and data protection, in her substantial list of publications and speaking engagements.
“Baker McKenzie has attracted my attention due to its handling of extraordinary assignments in the arbitration arena in recent years. Its strong local team and permanent presence in the CEE and SEE regions as well as its international network were the main reasons for me to join Baker McKenzie,” Prantl says.
Désirée Prantl is a rising star in the arbitration sky. VIAC president Günther J. Horvath looks back at many years of successfully cooperating with her: “I have always perceived Désirée as an extremely prudent and conscientious lawyer when working with her in many complex proceedings.”
“We are proud to have Désirée Prantl on board. Baker McKenzie has continued to grow even in times of Covid-19, making the Vienna-based arbitration team larger than ever. We are currently handling as much as fifteen pending arbitration proceedings, which takes us right to the top of the market,” comments arbitration partner Filip Boras happily.
