Baker McKenzie was named "International Law Firm of the Year" at the Asian Legal Business India Law Awards 2021. This is the second time the Firm has received the award, after having won the inaugural award in 2019.
The Firm’s successful work in the Indian market has also earned it a spot in India Business Law Journal’s list of Top Foreign Law Firms of 2021. Baker McKenzie has been regularly featured in this annual list for over 11 years.
India Business Law Journal's editorial team noted that the Firm is a popular choice for Indian clients, thanks to its “extensive global network” and “lawyers who understand India and Indian courts very well.” The publication also lauded the Firm's Global India Practice Head Ashok Lalwani; Principals Nandakumar Ponniya, James Huang, Emmanuel Hadjidakis and Kah Chin Chu; and Local Principal Ashish Chugh of Baker McKenzie Wong & Leow in Singapore.
“These recognitions are a great testament to our Firm's commitment to being the trusted advisor on India-related work. We are grateful to our clients for their continued support and entrusting us with their most complex cross-border work,” said Ashok.
“We are honored to receive these recognitions, especially during what has been a very challenging year,” said Michael Wong, Baker McKenzie's Asia Pacific Chair. “We are very pleased that our strong bench of seasoned lawyers in the India Practice Group have been able to help many Indian companies and multinationals successfully navigate through the current headwinds and anticipate their future legal needs. It is extremely gratifying to see that our efforts and commitment are being recognized by our clients and the legal industry."
“We are confident that India will bounce back strongly from this pandemic and retain its important position in the global market,” said Mini vandePol, Asia Pacific Chair of the Compliance & Investigations Group. “We look forward to continue supporting our clients as they move from resilience to business recovery, and helping them to mitigate global risks in the local environment which is crucial to protect new growth opportunities in India."
