Baker McKenzie Wong & Leow, the member firm of Baker McKenzie International in Singapore, has welcomed Emmanuel Chua as Local Principal to the Dispute Resolution practice. Prior to joining us, Emmanuel co-led the disputes function in an international oil & gas supermajor, with responsibility for matters across Asia, Middle East, Europe and Africa.
Managing Principal of Baker McKenzie Wong & Leow Andrew Martin, said: "We are very pleased to be bringing Emmanuel to the Firm where his past experience will greatly add to our dispute resolution practice at this juncture."
Nandakumar Ponniya, Baker McKenzie Asia Pacific chair for dispute resolution added: "Being able to bring on-board Emmanuel, with much-lauded expertise and experience in cross-border restructuring and disputes further enhances our abilities to serve the needs of our clients in the region. Both our restructuring and disputes teams have seen an increase in work since the pandemic drastically remodelled the business landscape. And we expect to be busy in Singapore given its status as a hub for both restructuring and disputes work. We are delighted to have Emmanuel join us and we look forward to working with him in the years ahead.”
"There are few firms that have Baker McKenzie's international reach and reputation, particularly across the diverse and fast-changing markets in Asia. It is an exciting time to be joining Baker McKenzie Wong & Leow, and I look forward to further building the Firm's strengths in the restructuring and disputes space," said Emmanuel.
Emmanuel also regularly advises on risk avoidance and mitigation strategies, including contingency planning and strategic advice, often from a cross-jurisdictional perspective. He is a panel arbitrator (reserve) for the Singapore International Arbitration Centre, a member of the Turnaround Management Association and teaches trial advocacy for the Singapore Institute of Legal Education.
