Latin Lawyer selected winning deals for its 14th annual Deal of the Year Awards based on "truly novel legal work at a level of complexity that broke new parameters."

Baker McKenzie's transaction on the PPP financing of a railway project in Uruguay earned recognition for its "impact and significance."

The firm advised consortium Grupo Vía Central S.A. on the financing for the construction of the Uruguay Central Railway project. The project, with a value of USD 1.07 billion, is the largest private investment made in Uruguay and will be the country's largest infrastructure project.

The transaction is part of a Public-Private Partnership between the Ministry of Transportation, Public Works of Uruguay and Grupo Vía Central. The project consists of the design, construction, financing, rehabilitation and maintenance of a 273 km double-tracked railway between Montevideo and Paso de los Toros in central Uruguay and is under an 18-year PPP contract.
