Baker McKenzie has advised Ÿnsect, a company that produces insects for animal feed, in its series C funding initiated in 2019 and which has reached a total of $372 million (316 million euros). A record funding deal for a company that will celebate its 10-year anniversary next year.

A year and a half after its first fundraising campaign to launch the construction of the largest vertical insect farm in the world in the Hauts-de-France region in Norther France, which is also the first to be “carbon negative”, Ÿnsect will have an operating site by 2022 thanks to this funding. The site will be able to produce 100,000 tonnes of ingredients each year for use in animal feed. This investment will also allow the company to expand internationally.

This operation once again shows the attraction of French tech and the growth segment which combines cap-dev and LBO techniques and which is witnessing a marked renewed interest. During the third quarter of 2020, the Private Equity team at Baker McKenzie will have structured and closed investment deals worth nearly $1 billion.

Baker McKenzie’s Private Equity team was comprised of Matthieu Grollemund, partner, Hélène Parent, partner, Gautier Valdiguié and Charlotte Berger, associates.
