Baker McKenzie has selected nine Summer Associates to participate in its D&I Client Summer Scholars program, providing them with a combined summer experience working at Baker McKenzie in addition to a corporate law department.
The Scholars spend a designated amount of time both at Baker McKenzie and in an in-house law department. The program was launched in 2017 to further Baker McKenzie's commitment to recruiting and retaining diverse lawyers, and the Firm continues to add more corporate partners each year. Participating companies in the 2020 program include Abbott, Accenture, Google, eBay and Nokia, among others. Baker McKenzie also collaborated with HP Inc. through the Diverse Attorney Pipeline Program, a nonprofit created to help first-year women of color law students excel in law school and secure sought-after positions in the legal field.
"We are committed to ensuring our Firm's diverse and inclusive culture is reflected in our Summer Associate program," said Anna Brown, Baker McKenzie's Director of Global Diversity & Inclusion. "The D&I Client Summer Scholars program, developed by our outstanding recruiting team, is a collaborative initiative to provide extremely valuable combined experience of working at a law firm as well as a corporate law department, enabling our scholars to gain experience and exposure to the many opportunities in the legal profession."
Added Kristina Gajewicz, Baker McKenzie's Director of Recruitment, Americas, "We look forward to teaming up with these companies as we work together to advance our shared commitment to creating a more diverse and inclusive culture within our organizations."
The D&I Client Summer Scholars program also provides robust mentorship and training opportunities, with each Scholar assigned both a Baker McKenzie and in-house lawyer mentor to ensure they receive substantive legal work and ample opportunities for networking and career advice.
Concluded Scott Brandman, Managing Partner of Baker McKenzie's New York and Miami offices who leads the Firm's Summer Associate Program, "Our D&I Client Summer Scholars represent the bright future of our profession, and we are thrilled to offer them a combined law firm and in-house experience so they can optimize their summer and build invaluable connections across the legal industry."This year's D&I Client Summer Scholars are: Meron Bayu, Sarah Frey, Ryan Moon, Doriane Nguenang, Fernanda Rodriguez, James Tenrai, Orfeh Vahabzadeh, Anelis Villarreal and Cheyanne Williams.
