The Corona crisis creates existential problems for public sector suppliers in particular – their services are essential to maintain the country's health care system and basic infrastructure, while at the same time a lack of protective equipment, interrupted supply chains and unresolved liability issues entail entirely new challenges.

Therefore, Baker McKenzie Vienna intends to help the affected companies quickly and sustainably by means of its Covid Support Group. The law firm offers a central point of contact at "Centralized advice and targeted information are indispensable in these hectic times," explains Alexander Petsche. "Our aim is to make a valuable contribution to the Austrian economy with this support group."

"In addition to the support of the suppliers, it is crucial that the public authorities will also close ranks over the next few days. Yesterday's announcement from the Ministry of Justice and the recommendations contained therein, such as the extension of deadlines for procurement procedures including the standstill period, the use of e-procurement also for under-limit orders, and clarifications on exceptions and contract adjustments are a first step in the right direction," says Kathrin Hornbanger. "However, we want to use our network to achieve further improvements for suppliers."

Along with Alexander Petsche (Dispute Resolution) and Kathrin Hornbanger, Georg Krakow (Compliance), Robert Wippel (Banking & Finance) and Andreas Traugott (Cartel and State Aid Law) also form part of the Covid Support Group.
