Baker McKenzie has secured Lance Sacks as a new corporate partner in Sydney, currently a partner at Clifford Chance. Lance is due to join Baker McKenzie after 1 May 2020.
Lance is a market leading corporate lawyer, having worked on some of Australia's most complex transactions regarding: mergers and acquisitions (both public and private), private equity, joint ventures and capital reconstructions.
He also acts on a large number of capital raising projects, including: block trades, initial public offerings, rights issues, underwritings, and stock exchange listings.
Baker McKenzie's National Managing Partner, Anthony Foley stated: "Lance has an impressive background having worked on large complex deals, both domestic and cross border. He has long been known to us as a leader in his field and we look forward to welcoming him to our growing Corporate Practice."
Baker McKenzie's Head of Corporate in Australia, Ben McLaughlin stated: "We are seeing an increasing number of client mandates for our Corporate Group in Sydney, evidenced by our work on a number of market leading transactions. Lance's arrival comes at an exciting time for our Firm."
Baker McKenzie's Corporate Practice has been kept very busy in recent times having assisted Home Consortium on its AUD 325 million IPO (one of the largest on the ASX and named FinanceAsia's best IPO of the year), Elanor Commercial Property Fund (ECPF) on its successful listing on the ASX, Afterpay on a AUD 200 million placement for global platform expansion opportunities and Credit Corp Group’s AUD 125 million capital raising to fund the Group's US expansion.
In joining the Firm, Lance commented: "I have long observed the Firm's point of difference being a leading corporate Firm with an unmatched cross border capability having a reach of 78 locations worldwide, including the world’s largest financial centres and key emerging markets, so knowing I can service my clients' needs wherever a transaction is executed was compelling along with the quality of lawyers in the Corporate Team nationally."
The hire comes off the back of appointing corporate partners' Derek Pocock and Jim Peterson and their respective teams in Baker McKenzie's Brisbane office. Most recently, the Firm hired Charlie Detmold, a Banking & Finance Partner mid last month (February 2020).
