Baker McKenzie has added leading transactional lawyer John L. Murphy as a partner, bringing more than 20 years of experience advising on international project development and financings, capital markets transactions and mergers and acquisitions. John joins the Firm from DLA Piper.

Based in Miami, John counsels developers, investors, project sponsors, private sector banks, and multilateral and bilateral public sector development financial institutions in the development and financing of power and infrastructure projects, including public-private partnerships. John, who is fluent in both Spanish and English, has worked on cross-border transactions and multijurisdictional workouts and restructurings in more than 10 countries across North America, Latin America and the Caribbean.

"Known for his business acumen and client service, John brings a practical approach when advising on complex, cross-border transactions, particularly those involving Latin America. We look forward to adding him to our team,” said Alan Zoccolillo, Chair of the Firm's North America Corporate & Securities Practice.

“I can't think of a better fit for our growing Miami practice than John Murphy. He brings the perfect combination of experience with complex transactions in the power and infrastructure sectors and deep roots in the Miami, New York and Latin America business communities," said Colin Murray, North America Chief Executive Officer.

Centered in Miami, but drawing on a seasoned team of lawyers in New York, as well as other US offices, the US-based Latin America Practice serves as a bridge to Baker McKenzie’s extensive platform and experience as the largest global law firm in Latin America. The Firm’s practitioners provide cross-market insights for clients doing business in the Americas and beyond.

"We have seen a vast amount of interest from our clients and the legal market since announcing the expansion of our US-based Latin American practice. We are excited to have John join the Firm as we continue our rapid growth with highly talented Miami-based attorneys. John will be key to our growth strategy, providing multinational clients top quality service on cross-border legal issues," said Scott Brandman, Managing Partner of the Firm's New York and Miami offices.

John added, "I am excited to join Baker McKenzie and its uniquely positioned transactions practice in Miami to help bridge their talented US team with their top-ranked, extensive Latin America platform."
