Firm earns perfect score on Corporate Equality Index for the 11th Consecutive Year
Baker McKenzie proudly announced that it received a score of 100 percent on the Human Rights Campaign Foundation’s 2020 Corporate Equality Index (CEI), the nation’s premier benchmarking survey and report measuring corporate policies and practices related to LGBTQ workplace equality. Baker McKenzie joins the ranks of more than 680 major U.S. businesses that also earned top marks this year.
The Human Rights Campaign Foundation is the educational arm of America's largest civil rights organization working to achieve equality for LGBTQ people.
"We are grateful to the Human Rights Campaign Foundation for recognizing the firm's efforts to continually implement new initiatives and policies to move toward a culture of greater inclusion," said Colin Murray, the Firm's North America Chief Executive Officer. "Our goal is be the employer of choice where all of our people can be their authentic selves, their work and contributions are respected and valued - this is what is at the heart of our inclusive culture. We are so proud of the work of our people and collaborative efforts in achieving this honor.”
"The Corporate Equality Index has become the gold standard to measure the commitment and actions taken in creating a thoughtful and healthy workplace for our LGBTQ colleagues and allies. We sincerely appreciate this recognition and congratulate all those recognized this year for striving towards greater inclusion," said Anna Brown, Baker McKenzie's Director, Global Diversity & Inclusion.
The CEI rates companies and top law firms on detailed criteria falling under five broad categories:
- Non-discrimination policies
- Employment benefits
- Demonstrated organizational competency and accountability around LGBTQ diversity and inclusion
- Public commitment to LGBTQ equality
- Responsible citizenship
Human Rights Campaign President Alphonso David added, “These companies know that protecting their LGBTQ employees and customers from discrimination is not just the right thing to do — it is also the best business decision. In addition, many of these leaders are also advocating for the LGBTQ community and equality under the law in the public square. From supporting LGBTQ civil rights protections in the U.S. through HRC’s Business Coalition for the Equality Act, to featuring transgender and non-binary people in an ad in Argentina, to advocating for marriage equality in Taiwan — businesses understand their LGBTQ employees and customers deserve to be seen, valued and respected not only at work, but in every aspect of daily life.”
Over the past year, Baker McKenzie was named one of the Best Law Firms for Women by Working Mother Magazine and ranked among the top 10 most LGBTQ-friendly employers in the UK on Stonewall's Workplace Equality Index, a national benchmark showcasing Britain’s top employers for LGBTQ staff.
