Leading global law firm Baker McKenzie is advising longstanding client Unilever on the divestment of its direct application laundry business in Central America to Industria La Popular, a Guatemalan-based home and personal care company. The transaction involves the licensing of the brands Xtra, Surf, Unox and Rinso in that product area and geography, and is subject to customary regulatory approvals, with closing expected during the second half of 2020.
The Baker McKenzie team was led from London by M&A partner David Scott and associate Matthew Bennett. They were supported by London IP partner Michelle Blunt and senior associate Iona Silverman, and Bogota antitrust partner Carolina Pardo and senior associate Miguel De Quinto. Baker McKenzie collaborated with regional law firm Arias for local law advice in Central America.
