Leading global law firm Baker McKenzie advised Spanish tour operator Wamos Group on its purchase of two thirds of all Thomas Cook travel agent shops in Belgium. The travel agencies will become part of Wamos Benelux and will employ almost 200 of the 500 people that worked for Thomas Cook in Belgium.  The takeover comes about two weeks after the Belgian Thomas Cook companies were declared bankrupt.

Wamos Group is based in Madrid and consists of the airline company Wamos Air, tour operator Wamos Tours, the travel agency Wamos Circuitos and tourist retailers Nautalia Viajes, Top Atlántico and Geo Star. In Spain and Portugal, the Group employs some 2,100 people.

As well as the 62 stores, a number of other business units were also acquired, such as the incentive department (which organises group trips for companies and organisations), the cruise department, e-commerce, and the media department.

Baker McKenzie advised Wamos Group with a team led by Brussels-based M&A Partner Dominique Maes and Banking and Financing/Restructuring Partners Antoine De Raeve and Eric Blomme.
