Baker McKenzie's Partners Joanna (Jo) Ludlam and Sue McLean have been named for the second year running in the prestigious HERoes Women Role Model Lists 2019, supported this year by Yahoo Finance.
Jo Ludlam, Co-Chair of Baker McKenzie's Global Compliance & Investigations group, and Sue McLean, Partner in the IPTech group, were ranked 80 and 54, respectively, in the HERoes 100 Women Executives List 2019. Both Jo and Sue form part of the BakerWomen leadership team - the Firm's mixed-gender employee network which enables the sharing of ideas and best practices to support the Firm's ambition to champion female talent and to build a gender balanced pipeline and leadership.
HERoes exists to drive gender equality in business. There’s a lack of female leadership at the most senior levels, and an absence of female role models. The HERoes Women Role Model Lists 2019 celebrates those leaders – both male and female – who are committed to driving the female talent pipeline.
Baker McKenzie's Global Diversity & Inclusion Chair Constanze Ulmer-Eilfort said: "I'm delighted that Jo and Sue have again been recognized for their hard work in championing gender equality. As role models, their dedication and enthusiasm has gone a long way to creating an environment at Baker McKenzie in which women can succeed."
Commenting on the listing, Jo Ludlam said: "It is a privilege to be named on the HERoes Women Executive list alongside so many other inspiring women leaders. These lists are a great way to showcase how, together, individuals across businesses and industries can drive change for gender equality."
Sue McLean added: "I think it's so important for all senior women in business to ‘lift as we climb’ and champion women in our organizations to help shift the dial on gender diversity. It's an honor to be recognized once again as a HERoes role model, alongside Jo and other incredible leaders."
In June 2019, Baker McKenzie was the first law firm to announce a Global Aspirational Target of 40:40:20 percent gender diversity, to represent 40% women, 40% men and 20% flexible (women, men or non-binary persons). This target applies to Partners, senior business professionals, Firm committee leadership and candidate pools for recruitment.
As a signatory of UN Women's Empowerment Principles, The Firm continues its commitment to the 'HeForShe' campaign, which encourages all of our male colleagues to act as allies and advocate for gender parity. The Firm has a range of initiatives focused on gender diversity including BakerWomen (as mentioned above) and a bAgile program, a flexible work initiative for all employees, a return to work program and a network of Inclusion Champions and Expert Allies. Baker McKenzie also a member of the UN Women's Corporate Advisory Group; 30% Club and has representation on the Transforming Women's Leadership in the Law program.
