Baker McKenzie, the leading global law firm, is investing significantly in strengthening its Brisbane office, as well as its capital markets and M&A capabilities, with the recruitment of two partners and two associates from Brisbane firm McCullough Robertson and a partner from Ashurst.
Derek Pocock and Jim Peterson join Baker McKenzie from McCullough Robertson as partners in the firm's Corporate Group, focusing primarily on capital markets and M&A.
Derek Pocock's key area of focus is capital markets, working regularly with clients in the energy and resources sectors, particularly those in the oil and gas and electricity sectors. Derek's client base includes a variety of ASX listed companies, and he has guided numerous companies to successful listings on the ASX. Derek also has a particular interest in shareholder activism, and has been regularly appointed to act for major shareholders seeking board renewal and strategic change, with his advice regularly sought on Takeover Panel proceedings.
Meanwhile, Jim Peterson's practice focuses on M&A, regulatory matters, ASX compliance and corporate compliance, and capital raisings. He has extensive experience in the resources, mining and automotive sectors, and is a leader in corporate governance, working with many of Queensland largest and most respected listed companies, as well as in more specialist areas for clients such Japanese trading houses.
Baker McKenzie also welcomes associates Adrienne de Bruyn, and Lisa Houston, who join Derek and Jim as part of a team move to its Brisbane office. Both are focused primarily in the capital markets and M&A space also.
The hires underscore Baker McKenzie's commitment to building a market leading platform in the Queensland market.

In addition to these appointments, Baker McKenzie has also announced that Tanya Denning joins the firm as a partner.
Tanya joins from Ashurst in Melbourne, where she has focused on energy, renewables, energy storage, utilities and mining, and acted on leading LNG and oil & gas mining and energy projects and transactions including a range of innovative and conventional products and services, businesses and technology. She also serves as the President of the AMPLA, the Energy & Resources Lawyers Association.
Tanya joins Baker McKenzie in Brisbane, representing a further expansion of the firm’s Brisbane office capabilities.
