The Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Bakytzhan Sagintayev, awarded Curtis Masters, a partner in Baker McKenzie's Kazakhstan office, with an official letter of commendation in recognition of his contributions to the foreign investment climate of Kazakhstan, at a ceremony held at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Astana on 29 November 2018. Mr. Masters, an active participant in Kazakhstan's investment community, is a well known commentator on, and a contributor to, Kazakhstani legislation and legal developments.
Earlier this year, Zhakip Assanov, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Kazakhstan, reappointed Curtis Masters as a member of the International Council of the Supreme Court of Kazakhstan, which advises the Supreme Court on best international judicial practices. Mr. Masters is the only foreign lawyer in Kazakhstan to be appointed as a member the Supreme Court International Council.
Also on 29 November 2018, Zhenis Kassymbek, Minister of Investments and Development of the Republic of Kazakhstan, gave Baker McKenzie a plaque in recognition of its 20 years of work on behalf of the Foreign Investors Council Chaired by the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The Council meets annually with the President, and throughout the year with members of Kazakhstan's Government, to address key challenges and opportunities facing Kazakhstan. The Foreign Investors Council's members consist of leading investor companies which are personally invited to join by Kazakhstan's President Nursultan Nazarbayev. Baker McKenzie is the only law firm invited by the President to be a member of the Foreign Investors Council.
