Baker McKenzie received the "Initiative of the Year - Pro Bono" award at the XII edition of the TopLegal Awards 2018 which took place yesterday, 19 November, at the East End Studios in Milan.
This year, great importance and value were attributed to the corporate social responsibility policies that Baker McKenzie has been able to best represent with the launch of its "Promoting Refugees Integration" project in Italy.
This inspiring project, whose promoter and main representative is Andrea Cicala, Head of the Antitrust & Competition Practice Group of Baker McKenzie in Italy, was developed by Baker McKenzie Italy in partnership with the University of Milan, the United Nations Refugees Agency (UNHCR) and the NGO "Farsi Prossimo" and aims to bridge the gap between businesses, institutions and beneficiaries of international protection, to provide the first step towards integration into the labor market.
The Firm's commitment mainly concerned the involvement of "business partners," i.e., companies willing to give a first job opportunity to refugees, and of over 25 of our lawyers who provide assistance in training courses for refugees organized by the NGO, aimed at clarifying the basic elements of employment relationships.
Since its launch in January 2018, the project has received vital support from our contacts and clients in the region. Over 30 beneficiaries of international protection have been employed with a traineeship contract and our Milan office has welcomed three trainees from the program, who are currently developing their skills in IT and administrative services.
