Baker McKenzie Taipei office Principal Grace Shao won a landslide victory in her election as President of the Taipei Bar Association on 20 November 2018.
Taipei Bar is the largest and most influential professional body for lawyers in Taiwan, with members accounting for over 70% of the country’s practicing lawyers. Its functions are to protect human rights,
engineer social reforms, provide professional training and champion the public interest.
Assuming such crucial duties, Grace is poised to make substantial contributions to the promotion of
the administration of justice in Taiwan.
In her acceptance speech, Grace identified the following three key directions she will focus on in addition to her campaign platform:
1. Legal and social reform: advancing amendments to the Attorney Regulation Act, advocating on important social issues.
2. In-depth exchange initiatives with international professional groups: holding the CityCup Sports Event and Southeast Asia Legal Forum in 2019, promoting legal awareness through increased exchanges with different professional bodies and across sectors.
3. Spirit of innovation: launching technology platforms for members, encouraging innovation in both perspectives and practices
