Baker McKenzie has appointed Ai Ai Wong to the position of Asia Pacific Chair, which she will assume in addition to her continuing role as member of the Firm's Global Executive Committee. Ai Ai's new role took effect at the conclusion of the Firm's Annual Meeting in Washington DC last week.
Baker McKenzie's Global Executive Committee is responsible for developing and implementing the Firm's global business strategy across 78 offices in 46 countries. As the world's most geographically diverse global law firm, this leadership team is comprised of eight senior partners, including two representatives each from Asia Pacific; Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA); and North America; and one from Latin America.
Ai Ai was elected to the Executive Committee in October 2016 and was the first Singaporean to join the Firm's governing body in its 70-year history. She, together with Michael Wong, a Principal with the Firm's Taipei office, will represent the Asia Pacific Region on the Executive Committee. As part of her Executive Committee responsibilities, she is also the Global Lead of the Firm's Transactional Practice Groups.
Ai Ai has enjoyed a distinguished career with Singapore's Baker McKenzie Wong & Leow. Having joined the Firm in 1996, she has served in several leadership positions, including leading the Corporate & Securities Practice Group in Singapore and chairing the Asia Pacific Private Equity Group. As one of the leading Corporate lawyers in Singapore, Ai Ai has built an impressive client base of blue chip institutions and leading entrepreneurs, and she has advised on some of the most significant transactions in the region.
Ai Ai succeeds Gary Seib, who served on the Firm's Global Executive Committee from 2014 to 2018 and was the Asia Pacific Chair from 2016 to 2018. He will return to practice in the Firm's Hong Kong office.
Commenting on her new role, Ai Ai said, "I am honored to serve as Baker McKenzie's next Asia Pacific Chair, and also to build upon the Firm's various successes achieved under Gary's leadership, including leveraging our strength as a transactional powerhouse in Asia Pacific. I also look forward to continuing to work with my esteemed colleagues on the Asia Pacific Regional Council, and with all of our partners and colleagues, to further cement Baker McKenzie's position as the premier global law firm in this region."
Jaime Trujillo, Baker McKenzie's acting Global Chair, added, "Ai Ai and Michael are exceptional lawyers at our Firm. I am confident that they will take our Firm to new heights in Asia Pacific. I would also like to thank Gary for his service and commitment to strengthening the Firm's market position throughout his term."
