Baker McKenzie promotes new Energy, Mining and Infrastructure leader

Leading global law firm Baker McKenzie has appointed Chicago-based partner José A. Morán as the Global Chair of the Energy, Mining & Infrastructure Industry Group. José, who has more than 23 years of experience in banking and project finance, has held numerous leadership roles at the Firm including recently serving four years as the Firm’s North American Banking, Finance and Major Projects Chair.

José advises clients on bank lending, including cross-border and project finance (with an emphasis on the financing of energy and infrastructure projects), capital markets financing, power, oil & gas; structured finance and public contracts and utilities. José represents clients in numerous high-value deals, including one recognized by Thomson Project Finance International as “the largest merger and acquisition deal in Latin America" and assisted Gas Natural in its tender offer for Endesa.

José succeeds Jim O’Brien, who has been appointed Chair of the Firm’s new Global Projects Practice Group. The Legal 500 United States has recognized José from 2011 - 2016 in the area of project finance and in prior years in the areas of corporate & finance and real estate & construction. Additionally, José has been recognized by the 2017 and 2018 Chambers & Partners global guide in the area of Projects.
