The acquisition by the London club, valued at 80 million euros, is the highest value transfer paid for a Spanish footballer so far and the highest amount paid for a goalkeeper in the history of football.

The Baker McKenzie team advising on the transfer was led by David Díaz, partner responsible for Sports, who offered advice to Chelsea on the terms of their contract with the 23 year old international player, as well as on a unilateral resolution - carried out by the player through the sponsorship of Chelsea - of his previous contract with Athletic Club. This resolution, executed through the payment of the termination clause at the Spanish Professional Football League, allowed him to join the London team where he will play in the Premier League.
