Baker McKenzie today announced the appointment of James Wilson as the Firm's first Chief Client Development Officer. James will oversee all Business, Development, Marketing and Communications (BDMC) operations for Baker McKenzie, defining strategies and approaches to support the Firm's overall vision.

James said, "The opportunity to lead BDMC for the Firm is hugely exciting. The choice of title reflects my background and intention that as a function we need to get even closer to our clients, listening to the trends of the market to understand how we can help them grow and succeed.

"I'm looking forward to working closely with our leaders and teams from across the world and all functions within BDMC. There is a great opportunity for us to work in a more unified way across the world, to be driven by how we as individuals, teams and as a firm can help our clients succeed and navigate the increasing complexities they face."

James has been with Baker McKenzie for 10 years, first with a senior role within the London office then establishing the firm's first Global Proposals team. Since 2016 James has led the Client, Industry and Proposals team globally, where last year the firm launched their Industry aligned Key Client Program. Previously he spent over 10 years at Ernst & Young.

James will report to Global Chief Operating Officer Jason Marty who commented: "No professional services organization can compete effectively in this challenging market without having an effective BDMC team at the cutting edge of client development. Having a leader like James will ensure Baker McKenzie remains at the forefront of thinking and best practice."

Paul Rawlinson, Global Chair for Baker McKenzie comments: "We are rightly proud of our market leading brand, profile and business development function. I am confident James can lead the team to an even more impressive performance."
