For the eighth consecutive year, Baker McKenzie has been named one of the 2018 Best Law Firms for Women by Working Mother magazine in collaboration with the ABA Journal, recognizing the Firm's outstanding practices for retaining and promoting women attorneys.
Published in the August/September issue of Working Mother, the annual recognition honors 60 law firms for "their policies in the advancement of women and for the implementation of work-life balance initiatives."
"Baker McKenzie is honored to once again receive this terrific recognition from Working Mother," said Colin Murray, Baker McKenzie's North American Chief Executive. "It is wonderful to see our efforts recognized in further advancing the work-life balance of our people. We are incredibly pleased with the progress we have made to foster an inclusive workplace. We also know that there is more work to be done, and we are focused on keeping our progress in motion so that we can continue to retain and attract the very best talent that our clients demand and deserve."
Anna Brown, Baker McKenzie's Global Director for Diversity & Inclusion added, "Women now account for 40 percent of our lawyers globally. And this year, 50 percent of our Partners who were promoted to Principals (Equity Partners) in North America were women. This is significant progress, and I'm proud to be part of an organization that is committed to advancing diversity and inclusion.”
"The law firms that make Working Mother's list are remarkable for their long-term commitment to retaining and promoting women lawyers," said Meredith Bodgas, editor-in-chief of Working Mother. "One hundred percent of these firms provide flexible work arrangements and 57 percent of them offer sponsorship programs for high-potential women lawyers. That's resulted in a jump in the number of women equity partners to 21 percent."
The Best Law Firms for Women recognition follows similar recognitions Baker McKenzie has received for its efforts in advancing a diverse and inclusive workplace. For example, Law360 recently named Baker McKenzie among the top five best law firms for women attorneys in its 2018 Glass Ceiling Report. Last year, Baker McKenzie launched its bAgile flexible work initiative for all North America employees, delivering a range of agile working arrangements, including telecommuting and working alternative schedules.
