Leading global law firm Baker McKenzie has ranked 10th in the UK Government's Social Mobility Employers Index published today. This is up one place from last year. The Index comprises the top 50 UK employers who have taken the most action to improve social mobility within the workplace.
Commenting, BakerOpportunity partner sponsor Arron Slocombe said: "As a Firm we firmly believe that everyone should have equal opportunity to succeed and realise their potential. No-one should be at a disadvantage because of who they are and where they come from. That is why we have worked hard to ensure we are broadening access and opportunities to talent from all backgrounds within our firm and in the legal profession more widely, and we will continue to do so. This ranking is testament to this commitment."
Baker McKenzie has a longstanding commitment to social mobility and increasing access to the legal profession. In addition to being one of the Government's Social Mobility Business Compact Champions, the Firm has been named as a Contextual Recruitment Pioneer. In 2015, the Firm was one of the first to introduce contextual recruitment in to its graduate recruitment applicant tracking system, which enables a candidate's economic background and personal circumstances to be taken into account for the first time.
