Leading global law firm Baker McKenzie has named Rodrigo Montemayor-Villarreal as a national partner in its Monterrey Corporate & Securities practice. In addition, the Firm announced that Jose P. Barnola, Jr., a partner and senior member of the Firm’s Band 1-ranked tax practice in Caracas with expertise in the oil & gas industry, will be relocating to Mexico City for two years as part of Baker McKenzie’s mobility program.

- Rodrigo Montemayor-Villarreal joins the North American Corporate & Securities practice group. He will be based in Monterrey. Rodrigo was previously with Owens Corning, where he served as head of the company’s mergers and acquisitions department, where he oversaw a wide spectrum of legal matters, including joint ventures, strategic sourcing alliances and corporate governance compliance. He earned his law degree from the Universidad de Monterrey in 1999 and his LL.M. from New York University School of Law in 2003. Montemayor-Villarreal also completed executive education programs at IPADE Business School, EGADE Business School, and The University of Chicago Booth School of Business.
- José P. Barnola, Jr. has been a Partner in the Firm’s tax practice (chaired by Carlos Linares-Garcia) in Caracas since 2003. He has extensive experience in tax matters, particularly in the oil & gas industry, advising on strategic associations, construction contracts, and cross border transactions. Barnola also has an expertise in consumer goods, mining and telecommunications. He began his career at Baker McKenzie in 1993, after graduating from Universidad Catolica Andres Bello and completing his Master's in Tax Law at the Universidad Central de Venezuela. Barnola has authored over 20 legal articles on tax issues that have been published in the U.S., Venezuela, and Canada. He is a recognized expert on private property, cross-border distribution activities, corporate reorganizations, VAT, tax litigation, and employee taxation issues, and has lectured on taxes for over 17 years.
